Striper study reveals sport-fish habits

A transmitter placed in a highly sought sport fish by the state Department of Natural Resources on Lake Hartwell apears to be a “kiss of death” for striped bass.  Since the DNR began its striped bass telemetry project, one transmitter has been caught by anglers and recycled four times already.

The Sun nets 5 Better Newspaper awards

July 9, 1915 “Water!” was the talk of the town and the top of the headlines as Hartwell’s newly constructed waterworks system neared completion. The Sun reported the first water was pumped up from the station on Tuesday, July 6 and hydrants were tested out later that afternoon.

Former councilman remembered by friends, family

Mike Gordon spoke his mind while serving on the Hartwell city council, but was also always willing to listen. That is how Gordon will be remembered by former city manager David Aldrich and friends after Gordon died of natural causes at his home in Hartwell on Friday, June 26.
