Restrictions alter school operations

More information about the start of the Hart County school year is being released, including details on open house, how the virtual learning option will work and restrictions on visitations.

Senior year for the Hart County High School Class of 2020 was far from normal, but as valedictorian Samuel Garringer noted Saturday at a pandemic-postponed graduation ceremony, “normal is boring.

Hart 4-H'ers compete at district

Hart County 4-H’ers competed at the Northeast District Junior/Senior Project Achievement at Rock Eagle 4-H Center, March 6-8, and brought home awards for their accomplishments.  In total, almost 500 students in grades 7-12 competed, representing 40 counties in the Northeast District.

Graduation ceremony set for Saturday

Members of the class of 2020 have certainly seen an unconventional end to their high school careers compared to years past, and the same could be said for the class’s upcoming graduation ceremony. Graduation is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Block party set for Carolina Street

Carolina Street in downtown Hartwell between Howell and Depot streets has experienced a renaissance of late.  When fall began in 2018, only a couple of businesses were operating in the one-block stretch that included a vacant former car dealership and a vacant former textile factory and warehouse.

The eighth-annual Lake Hartwell Music Festival is still on for July 18, as long as statewide coronavirus-prompted restrictions aren’t extended.

Hart has more broadband access than neighbors

More than  2,000 locations in Hart County are considered “unserved” when it comes to broadband internet access, a state Department of Community Affairs report shows, but the county is better served than some of its neighbors.

County hones liquor by drink resolution

Officials are hopeful a referendum for Hart County voters to decide on liquor by the drink sales in the county will make it to the November general election ballot and the ballot initiative could  authorize more than restaurants to serve liquor.
