Runners to compete in college

Several of Hart County’s track and field and cross country athletes inked their names Friday to play at the next level in 2021. Seniors A.J. Johnson, Paola Rubio and Matthew Brown all signed to compete in college on Friday, Dec. 11 at the AgriScience Center.

High, middle school wrestlers bring home medals

The Hart County High School Mat Dogs are charging ahead in the region, as the middle school team took home several top medals in their region this week. The Mat Dogs took down region foe Stephens County 45-30 in a duals match in Toccoa on Monday, Dec. 15.

Hart’s Kaimon Rucker is making noise in his first season as a Tarheel

Fresh off a 62-26 thumping of No. 10 Miami on Saturday, outside linebacker Kaimon Rucker can’t help but crack a smile through his Tarheel-adorned face covering. “That was really cool playing in Hard Rock Stadium,” Rucker told The Sun as he stopped in Hartwell for the holiday break.

Lady Dogs notch victories amid quarantines

Despite multiple quarantines on the team, the Hart County High School Lady Dogs are powering through and earning victories. Multiple players have been quarantined for possible exposure, along with 337 students in the school system, but the Lady Dogs are still finding wins on the court.

High school anglers take first place

What started out as a cold morning on Lake Hartwell at the Palmetto Boat Center Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 5, turned into a hot afternoon for the Hart County High School Anglers as they notched a first-place team finish in the high school division.

Anglers haul in fish in team tourney on Hartwell

Lake Hartwell proved to be tough waters for the Hart County Anglers’ third intra-club tournament of the year on Saturday, but the anglers brought in some nice fish regardless. Pictured is Xander Patton, who placed first in the high school division with five fish weighing 10.99-lbs.

CMA fighters compete

Four members of Chuck Cawthon’s Contemporary Martial Arts in Hartwell, fought kickboxing matches inside a cage at The Warrior Combat Challenge held in Gaffney, S.C. on Saturday, Nov. 14.  CMA went 4-0 as a team, with one match being stopped via TKO.

Pickleballers cut ribbon to new courts at YMCA

On a frigid Tuesday morning, Joby Scroggs and Frank Gunder scored the first point to break in the new pickleball courts at the Bell Family YMCA. The Lake Hartwell Pickleball Club held its first outdoor matches after cutting the ribbon for new outdoor courts on Dec. 1.
