Cooling bill assistance is available

Ninth District Opportunity, Inc. will open up the cooling program for clients who are 65 years of age or older, or medically homebound beginning on April 1. If there is additional money, then the program will open to the general public on May 1.

The Hartwell Main Street program could win a $25,000 cash prize, but it needs the community’s help to do so. Hartwell is among the 2020 nominees for the fifth-annual America’s Main Streets contest conducted by Independent We Stand, a national small business movement.

VIRUS IMPACTS HART

Georgia is in a state of emergency as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, shutting down schools, large gatherings, sporting events and businesses around the country and locally. There are still no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hart County as of press time.

Bowersville man shot in home invasion

A Bowersville man is in critical condition after a teenager allegedly broke into his home and shot him with a rifle. Authorities say a 16-year-old male broke into 49-year-old Kevin Brookins’s residence on Hubbard Street in Bowersville at 6:30 p.m.

Schools to provide meals, plan for pickup of items

The Hart County Charter System is beginning its meal program today during the school cancelation due to the novel coronavirus pandemic.  The school system will provide meals to children ages 18 and younger, free of charge. Children must be present to receive the meals.
