Winners selected at annual Juried Art Exhibit

Artists in the Hart County area put their finest works up for judgement on July 29 at the annual Juried Art Exhibit. The Art Center of Hartwell played host to the event put on by the Hart Regional Arts Council, which named eight award winners among 27 participating artists.

BOC places 180-day moratoriam on subdivision approvals

By Drew Dotson Staff writer Last week, the Hart County Board of Commissioners voted in favor of a 180-day moratorium to restrict subdivision approvals. The moratorium will stop the approval of less than one acre and only allow for modular or mobile homes and site-specific stick-built housing.

Renovations at Hartwell Elementary unveiled

The renovations to Hartwell Elementary School are nearly complete, with a grand re-opening ceremony scheduled for August 21. Hart County Charter System director of operations David Seagraves said the renovations were divided into three phases over the past year.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: July 20 •Larry Wayne Shelnutt, Jr, 48, of Dewy Rose, was arrested and charged with two counts of felony theft by taking.

Fun Spot Manufacturing honors longtime employee

On July 9, 1996 Jermaine Gaines began working at Fun Spot Manufacturing, LLC shortly after departing from college. He started off notching tubes for backyard trampolines and through the years, has held many other positions advancing him to supervisor of safety pads.

1933 - Sheriff Britt Brown and deputy Curtis Kay seized a truck carrying 168 cases of beer. The 1933 Chevrolet model truck was carrying “Guenther” brand beer. Two of the three men were from Baltimore and the third was from Atlanta.
