The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: Aug. 31 •A woman was arrested and charged with obstruction of an officer and simple battery. •Karlie Auton Kearns, 22, of Hartwell, was arrested and charged with two counts of third degree cruelty to children and simple battery. Sept.

Tuesdays are crunch time for deadline at The Hartwell Sun and 2001 was no different.

Man allegedly attempts to burn house with woman sleeping inside

An Elberton man set fire to a woman’s house in Hartwell she was sleeping inside, according to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland. Rondal Booth Morrison, 46, was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking, arson in the first degree and criminal damage to property in the first degree on Aug.26.

Capt. Phillips, Navy SEAL detail famed pirate encounter

Captain Richard Phillips, whose dramatic rescue at sea was made into a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks, told his story Sunday at the Cateechee Golf Club to help raise money through the charity Toughest Kids, Inc. for the Gold Star Family Trust Project.
