Tuesdays are crunch time for deadline at The Hartwell Sun and 2001 was no different.
Volunteers in Lavonia on Saturday load a truck full of supplies for Haitians in need after last month’s earthquake. Dozens of volunteers met over the weekend in Lavonia to pack a shipping container from Love Him Love Them Haitian Ministry to earthquake-stricken Haiti.

The Franklin-Hart Airport Authority is looking for ways to offset costs of expanded operations at the airport. The Franklin-Hart Regional Airport in Canon recently added a taxiway running parallel to the runway.

Man allegedly attempts to burn house with woman sleeping inside

An Elberton man set fire to a woman’s house in Hartwell she was sleeping inside, according to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland. Rondal Booth Morrison, 46, was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking, arson in the first degree and criminal damage to property in the first degree on Aug.26.

Capt. Phillips, Navy SEAL detail famed pirate encounter

Captain Richard Phillips, whose dramatic rescue at sea was made into a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks, told his story Sunday at the Cateechee Golf Club to help raise money through the charity Toughest Kids, Inc. for the Gold Star Family Trust Project.
