Hart County High School will host the Lake Hartwell Marching Competition this weekend.
Twenty-five high school bands will be performing at Herndon Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 19, starting at 11:40 a.m. until 9:10 p.m.
The competition will serve as a fundraiser for  the Hart County band. Admission is $7 and free for children 5 years old and under. Concessions and souvenirs will be sold to raise money as well.
People attending the competition will get more than just music for their admission.
“Not only will they see and hear great performances, but we also will have a fall-festival environment,” HCHS Band Director Alan Tolbert said. “We have a section where we sell beads. We sell buttons. We sell souvenirs. We have fair food with funnel cakes and deep-fried Oreos. We have two, full concession stands running. So, its like a fall festival in conjunction with a marching competition.”
Bands will compete based on the number of wind instruments in the band to ensure fair competition. Smaller bands will perform earlier in the day and the larger bands will perform later. Hart County will not be competing because it is the host, but will perform an exhibition at the end of night.
The competition is put on at Hart County High School because it is a good location for northeast-Georgia high schools without having to go to the Atlanta-area, according to Tolbert.
A full list of the bands competing, as well as rules and regulations for the competition, can be found on the Hart County Band website at www.hartcountyband.com.
