Let the games begin: Local high school sports are gearing up

The clanging of weights and sweat pouring from athletes getting in shape will soon be heard and seen again at Hart County High School.

Perseverance leads to Clemson running dream

Samuel Garringer nearly gave up his dream of running competitively at the collegiate level about a year ago, but he persevered and is now forging his dream into reality.

Teen bags two turkeys in first weekend of season

A local 14-year-old started turkey season off with a bang last weekend. Kanyon Coulter, an eighth-grade student at Hart County Middle School, bagged two adult gobblers in Hart County during the opening weekend of youth turkey season.

Author Alvin Richardson is writing “Friday Nights in Hart County,” a book on the history of Hart County Football, to celebrate 100 years of the sport in Hart County and is available for pre-order now.  The book will go back to Hart County Football’s first season in 1921.

Locked Out: Coaches, athletes reeling with seasons in limbo

The remainder of the 2020 spring sports’ season is in limbo for Hart County athletes, and a resolution to rectify an unprecedented season-postponement due to Covid-19 threats isn’t in sight. Hart County Athletic Director Rance Gillespie says he’s never seen anything like it.

Slow-pitch softball gets 2 games in, season on hold

The 2020 slow-pitch softball season was just getting started for the Hart County Lady Dogs after they swept East Jackson on Thursday in a double-header at home, but now the season is on hold and the team is itching to get back on the field.

Freshman year was a slam dunk for Hart County Bulldog Tahj Johnson. The 6-foot-7 forward recently received AAA Freshman of the Year honors from HoopSeen, a high school basketball news and recruiting website, and Sandysspiel.com after a standout season on the court.
