The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:      June 6 •Johndravis Alexander, 36, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with probation violation. •Mikendricus Campbell, 19, of Bowersville was arrested and charged with probation violation - aggravated assault.

Finding the funding for Georgia highways

Wounds were still being licked this time 10 years ago. A year earlier, the ballyhooed effort to implement a new transportation tax had been thumped at the ballot box in most parts of Georgia, including in metro Atlanta where the need for new infrastructure was dire.

A first-time perspective on Father’s Day

This Father’s Day will mean more to me this year than any other year. Back on November 11, 2022 (which was also my 24th birthday), my wife Madison and I walked into AnMed Women’s and Children’s Hospital at around 7 a.m. for her to be induced.

Main Street tackles litter on city streets

‘Breathe Easy’ signs have been installed at various locations throughout Downtown Hartwell in an effort to discourage individuals from discarding their cigarette butts on city sidewalks.

New ‘Tea Room’ a place to sit, shop and dream

Downtown Hartwell has seen dramatic growth in new businesses in the last few years, and that trend will continue when Darlene Nixon and her daughter Brooke Dutton officially open the doors to their new store, Allafair’s Tea Room, Books, and Boutique.

Hart County AARP celebrates 50 years

Hart County AARP Chapter 2006 was established in 1973 by a group of Hartwell citizens who wanted to give back to their community, and  they recently celebrated 50 years. This is the oldest chapter in the state of Georgia, and the only chapter left in Northeast Georgia.
The Hart County Charter System is planning to break ground on a new athletic building, which will be located at Hart County Middle School.

ESPLOST dollars going to work

Construction on a new Multi-Purpose Athletic Building for the Hart County Charter System (HCCS) is expected to begin by the end of the year, providing several Hart County sports with a much needed home.

Another Habitat build finished, two more to go

The Hart County Habitat for Humanity recently unveiled ‘Habitat House 21’ to Yolanda Feaster in a ceremony at the home on Savannah Street. In addition to the unveiling, recipients of ‘Habitat Houses 22 and 23’ were also revealed to the crowd in attendance.
