The council approved this with the condition that any future development on the property will be placed, at least, 50 feet back from Athens Street.

The old Bell’s Shopping Center located at the corner of Athens and Howell Streets was approved for re-zoning by the Hartwell City Council. This move came during the City Council’s regular June meeting on June 5, where Mayor Brandon Johnson said, “this is just one of the first of many re-zones.

City approves paying off 15-year-old loan for utility upgrades

The City of Hartwell could soon be able to host a mortgage burning party, in a manner of speaking. City Manager Jon Herschell asked the Hartwell City Council to retire an old debt during their meeting on June 5 in City Hall. “This loan was lumped in with a lot of different things,” Herschell said.

Hartwell VFW Post 8076 was recognized as the Georgia District 2 Top Post of the Quarter at the recent district meeting in Cumming, Ga. An impressive eagle trophy is on display at the post.

Council approves new $5.6 million firehouse

The Hartwell City Council approved $5.6 million in funding for the construction of a new Hartwell firehouse, during their regular meeting on June 5 at City Hall. At the meeting, Mayor Brandon Johnson and City Manager Jon Herschell presented the council with final cost estimates for the project.

HCHS sports’ summer camps in full swing

The Hart County High School baseball, softball, and soccer teams prepare to host summer camps in the month of June. The HCHS Diamond Dogs will be hosting a baseball camp from June 5-8 at Saye Field.

Little League rookie softball team advances to sectionals

The Hart County Little League rookie softball team swept Oglethorpe County by a score of 14-4 and 9-7 to advance to sectionals. On May 23 in game one, Hart came away with a 14-4 win over Oglethorpe and was just one win away from moving onto sectionals in a best of three series.
