Here’s a list of my favorite ‘things’

Under a protective cap of possum-blond hair sits a mental jukebox. Sometimes it plays songs. Other times, there’s just background music and a voice, scrolling down a list of things that make me smile. A while back, I was smiling — watching martins do aerobatics around the tower of gourds.

High school completes second welding course for adults

Hart County High School (HCHS) recently concluded its second installment of an adult welding course that is being offered through the Hart County College and Career Academy (HCCA).

Preacher achieves 50-plus year goal to obtain doctorate

Dan Bailey was called to preach 51 years ago last month. “Ever since I have been called to preach, my one ultimate goal in my ministry, apart from preaching the gospel and winning souls to Jesus, was to be able to get a Doctor of Theology degree,” he said.

HCHS baseball team to host summer camp

The Hart County High School baseball team will be hosting a baseball camp from June 5-8 at Saye Field. The baseball camp, for ages five to 14 years old, will focus on skills and hitting drills as well as skills and hitting competitions. If campers pre-register, the cost of the camp is $70.

YMCA all about soccer in June

The Bell Family YMCA is set to host multiple soccer camps in the month of June from the ages of six to 17 years of age. In the month of June, the YMCA of Hartwell will put an emphasis on soccer by hosting three different camps.

Barnes Academy senior cheerleader Abbey Johnson became the first cheerleader in the school’s history to receive a scholarship for cheer, deciding to continue her academic and cheer career at Emmanuel College. For Johnson, she never thought she would get the opportunity at the collegiate level.
