YMCA to host junior pickleball camp

The Bell Family YMCA will host a junior pickleball camp on July 24-28. One of the fastest growing sports globally is pickleball, and Bell Family YMCA sports director Kerv Augustin is excited to introduce a new sport to the next generation of athletes.

Twisters strike gold and silver at Nationals

The Hartwell Twisters gymnastics team went to compete at Nationals in Orlando, FL on July 1 and had eight take first place and seven taking second place in their individual events.

Two HCHS competition cheerleaders make Top 30 for Cheerleader of the Year

Rising senior cheerleaders for the Hart County High School competition cheer team, Ameila Johnson and McKinley Ivester made the Top 30 for the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association (GCCA) Cheerleader of the Year.

Racetracks and Racers

When I was a child my father and I would sometimes go to automobile races at various dirt tracks in the area. We attended races in Toccoa, Hartwell, Lavonia and Banks County speedways in Georgia along with Anderson, Greenville-Pickens and Westminster Speedways in South Carolina.

North Georgia Credit Union named Credit Union of the Year

North Georgia Credit Union (NGCU) was recently honored by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates as the 2022 “Credit Union of the Year” for the state of Georgia in the category for up to $100 million in assets.

Hart EMC’s 86th annual meeting will be held Thursday, July 20 at the Hart County High School Gym. The annual meeting is a meeting of Hart EMC’s members and a special occasion for members to participate in cooperative business and meet their cooperative leaders and employees.

Open house scheduled for July 27, 28

Hart County Charter System middle and high school students can expect to meet their new teachers on July 27. Sixth graders will participate in transition camp from 9 a.m. until noon, and grades 7 and 8 will be invited into the school between the hours of 4 and 7 p.m.

Heaton says farewell to City of Hartwell after 47 years

After 47 years of service to the City of Hartwell, Elaine Heaton  will soon be enjoying a very well deserved retirement. The Hartwell City Council honored Heaton during their regular meeting on Monday, July 10 in front of friends, family, coworkers and department heads.
