Morrison named Teacher of the Year

The Hart County Charter System is excited to announce Britney Morrison is the 2023-2024 System Teacher of the Year. The announcement was made at the district’s convocation July 26, which gathers employees across the district prior to the beginning of the school year.

Hartwell resident and  Retired Lieutenant Colonel William (Ranger Bill) L. McCarron will be signing his new book “And the Tears Flowed,” Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Knotheads Bar and Grill located at 1541 Anderson Highway.

It’s time for a softball position group breakdown. The Hartwell Sun will be breaking down each position group on the 2023 Hart County High School softball team leading up to the first pitch on August 5. We start with a group who will have four new faces on the  mound, and that is the pitchers.

YMCA teaches healthy habits at Kids Fit Camp

The Bell Family YMCA hosted a Kids Fit Camp on July 17-21 to help teach kids how to work out and have healthy eating habits before heading back to school. YMCA sports director Kerv Augustin’s main focus was to teach kids how they can workout anywhere, especially at home.

It’s no secret that recent years have been tough on small businesses and on newspapers. A bipartisan bill, the Community News & Small Business Support Act, that has been introduced in Congress would offer relief to both newspapers and local businesses.

Community baptism event taking place Saturday

Several local churches are working together to co-host an open baptism event this coming Saturday, July 29, at Lake Hartwell. The event will take place at Shelter #1 at Long Point at the end of Old 29. The baptisms are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. and will end at 5 p.m.
