Hartwell named Downtown of the Year

The City of Hartwell has been named Downtown of the Year as they were bestowed the Outstanding Community Transformation/Downtown of the Year Award from the Georgia Downtown Association (GDA).

Contention over grandfather clause leads to debate

“Miscommunication” regarding a “grandfather case” led to a heated debate and accusations of altered documents by the Hart County Health Department over a septic tank permit during the Hart County Board of Commissioners’ (BOC) Aug. 22 meeting.

Maxwell Ratings makes predictions for Region 8AAA

The Maxwell Ratings, compiled by mathematician and Georgia High School Football Historians Association founder Loren Maxwell, have projected the region finishes of all 413 football-playing schools in the GHSA.

Cross Country starts season off with a challenge

The Hart County High School Cross Country team kicked off the season with a two-miler at East Jackson  Aug. 12. A trio of boys and girls competed in stage one. For the boys, junior Nate Harris was the best finisher in the stage finishing 20th.

Hart drops both games in Gridiron Classic

The Dogs dropped both halves to two top notch high school football programs from South Carolina in the 2023 Gridiron Classic. Iron sharpens iron. It’s something that many of us have heard over the years. But that is  exactly what the Hart County Bulldogs did Aug.

Lady Dogs go 2-2 over four game stretch

The Lady Dogs traveled to Elbert County Aug. 10, Gainesville to play them and Rabun County Aug. 12, and hosted their season opener against Habersham Central Aug. 15, in which Hart went 2-2 in the stretch of those four games. It began Aug.

Hart to host rival Elbert to kickoff the season

Hart County football is back! The Dogs will begin the 103rd season under the lights in Herndon Stadium. The Bulldogs host a team that they have faced more than anyone, as this will be the 94th matchup between these two schools.

Volley Dogs capture Elite Invitational Championship

The Volley Dogs dropped one set en route to the Elite Invitational championship while also splitting at East Jackson. It began on Aug. 12 at 6 a.m. when the Volley Dogs arrived to make their trip to Chestatee High School for the Elite Invitational.

Hart fills Sept. 15 slot with a trip to Lumpkin

Hart County Football has filled its “to be announced” game Sept. 15 with a trip to Lumpkin County. Two weeks ago, The Hartwell Sun reported that Hart County had an open slot in their schedule due to St. Francis not having enough players.

VFW Post 8076 named back-to-back Post of the Quarter

Members of VFW Post 8076 Hartwell and Post 8076 Auxiliary attended the VFW Department of Georgia District 2 quarterly meeting Aug. 6, at VFW Post 5456, Elberton. VFW Post 8076 was honored to be named back-to-back District 2 Top Post of the Quarter for our outstanding community service.
