Anglers to host informational meeting and Faith and Fish

The Hart County Anglers will host an informational meeting on Aug. 15, and also host a Faith and Fish Event at Hart County High School’s Fine Arts Center on August 19. The Anglers will hold an informational meeting on Tuesday Aug. 15 at 6 p.m. All paperwork must be turned in during this meeting.

Dogs look to fill empty slot in football schedule

The Hart County High School football team announced their 2023 schedule, but it features a bump in the road on Sept. 15. Back in the spring during a Sun interview with Dogs head coach Cory Dickerson, he mentioned that the Dogs would host seven teams under the lights in Herndon Stadium this fall.

YMCA ends summer camps with Pickleball

After a summer full of camps, the Bell Family YMCA ended the summer teaching kids about the fastest growing sport in America. As they hosted a youth pickleball camp from July 24-28.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   July 24   John Barton, 30,  of Dewy Rose was arrested and charged with failure to appear. Leah Brown, 26, of Royston was arrested and charged with a probation warrant.

Have you noticed; the gospels show John baptizing. The gospel writers do not explain why John is baptizing. They expect the reader to know the process of baptism and why John is doing it. Where did John get the idea to fully immerse people in water? Notice John is from a priestly lineage.

School system conducts active shooter simulation drill

The Hart County Charter System successfully completed an Active Shooter Simulation Drill in collaboration with local emergency services.

Friday fundraising to help ‘open doors’ to Art Center

A barbecue fundraising event to raise funds needed to reopen the Hartwell Art Center will be held this weekend, Friday, Aug. 4, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the patio at Common Ground in Hartwell. The event will include a musical performance by the 70’s band, Chicky and The Hat.
A straight-line wind event did severe damage on Saturday evening along Highway 77. The storm ripped the roof off of the Hicks family barn and destroyed a large number of trees.

Wind causes damage following severe storms

At approximately 10 p.m. last Saturday night, a straight-line wind event caused severe damage to the Hicks family properties belonging to brothers Bruce and Brian Hicks. Bruce and Brian, who are co-owners of the radio station WKLY, own separate properties along Highway 77 where the storm hit.

Pedestrian hit and killed on Royston Highway Monday

A female pedestrian was struck and killed by a passing vehicle on Royston Highway, at approximately 7:20 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, Aug. 1, according to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland. The woman, Shiree Ann Lee, 58, frequently walked along the highway, according to Cleveland.
