Census participation lags behind 2010 numbers

A little more than half of the residents of Hart County have responded to the 2020 U.S. Census and census takers are encouraging everyone to do so.  The U.S. Census website, 2020census.gov, shows that 55.

School renovations on track

Renovations at Hartwell Elementary School are moving along as planned and should mostly be complete by the time students enter for the first day of classes — all while staying on budget, officials say.

Annexation agreement shot down

County and city officials are still at odds over annexing Hartwell Lakeside into city limits and liquor by the drink sales in Hart County are heading for the November ballot following Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

The Hartwell Police Department reported the following incidents and citations: Three expired vehicle tags; five stop sign violations; one driving without license on person; three unsafe operations of radio, telephone or cell; one failure to yield; one following too closely.

Possible COVID-related death reported in Hart County

The COVID-19-related death of a resident at Hart Care Center has been reported by the Department of Community Health, but the state Department of Public Health, which monitors and reports on overall numbers of cases, hospitalizations and deaths from the virus still lists Hart County with zero.
