Hartwell resident Bill Powell is passionate about his photography. Each morning and evening, almost without fail, he captures the light and clouds painting the sky over Lake Hartwell.

The North American Railcar Operators Association held an excursion last Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16, that began in Bowersville and wound its way along the Hartwell Railroad between Toccoa and Elberton.

Gov. Brian Kemp is now allowing local officials to decide whether or not to implement mask-mandates, as the number of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Hart County appears to be declining. An executive order issued Saturday, Aug. 15 by Kemp extends certain coronavirus-prompted restrictions until Aug.

Faculty and staff at Hartwell Elementary stood socially distanced Monday in the hallways, masks on their faces, directing children to their new classrooms for the 2020-2021 academic year.  “Do you know where you’re going,” teacher Kendell Rucker asked a young student.

Aug. 9, 1918 A Hartwell military man, who survived one submarine torpedo attack, went missing after another torpedo attack sunk the ship he was on almost exactly a year later. James Brown Estes, the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Reuben Estes, of Hartwell, was lost on the U.S.S.

Purina has reached the company’s 2020 goal to achieve zero waste for disposal across all manufacturing operations, thanks in large part to the Hartwell facility, company officials announced last week.
