Pair nabbed in Hart probed for SC double homicide

Two people considered persons of interest in a double homicide investigation in Townville, S.C., were arrested during a traffic stop in Hart County on Aug. 23. Lester Piercefield IV, 26, of Gretna, S.C., and Payton Skylar Call, 20, of Anderson, S.C.

Scarecrows set to return to downtown Hartwell

Despite the Monster Mash cancellation, the scarecrows still are coming to “Scare COVID Out of Hartwell” for the 10th Annual Scarecrow Bash, starting on Sept. 26. The prize money for the scarecrows deemed the best by the judges has increased this year.

Botanical garden to host tree sale

The Hart County Botanical Garden is having its first Fall Pre-Sale Tree Sale this fall with online ordering. From Sept. 7-28, people will be able to go on to the botanical gardens website, hartcogardens.com, and place orders for trees.

Employees at The Hartwell Sun were reminded first-hand last week that Hart County is in the middle of what animal rescuers call kitten season when a stray kitten was rescued from the engine bay of a reporter’s car.

Bowersville pursuing alcohol ordinance

Bowersville could have an alcohol ordinance and a production brewery complete with a taproom in 2021, if things go as planned. The town council met in a special called meeting on Thursday, Aug. 27 to discuss what they want in an alcohol ordinance and how it might look once completed and enacted.

One of Doris Mahannah’s earliest memories is of waking up as a small child in Virginia, unable to get out of bed because of how sick she was. Her mother came and picked her up and made sure she ate and was cared for until she was nursed back to health.

Virus cancels football game; infection rate slows

COVID-19 prompted the Hart County High School versus Elbert County football game to be canceled after the Elbert County School District made the announcement Tuesday night, but Hart County won’t be without a game Friday night.
