Alleged meth traffickers nabbed with 400 grams

City Manager Jon Herschell is asking for Hartwell residents’ patience with the cleanup of limbs and debris along the roads. Herschell said he has had numerous people complaining about yard debris and how long it takes to be picked up from the street.

HYDRA Fourth Fridays to bring community

Hart Youth Development Resource Association (HYDRA) is hosting a free activity for children once every month called Fourth Friday. Fourth Friday started as a kick-off event for the summer, according to HYDRA Director Mindy Wise.

Hart men release new album, a decade later

A decade after releasing their first album, former Hart County students Zeke Sayer and John Bleech are releasing their second album as The Humms on Sept. 29. The album, “Vampire Hours,” will be released on vinyl and streaming through  Sayer’s label Gypsy Farm Records.

4-H’ers win at district

A group of Hart County’s junior 4-H’ers took first place at a recent competition over other area programs. The team competed in the Georgia 4-H’s Northeast District Area Forestry Field Day Competition at the Thompson Mills Forest and State Arboretum in Braselton on Sept. 3.

Domestic violence council needs volunteers

The pandemic-prompted closure of businesses and organizations may be over for most, but one local nonprofit says it needs its volunteer base to build back up to fulfill its mission.

Sept. 14, 1928 ­— Sheriff Britt Brown and Deputy Curtis Kay captured 32 gallons of “firewater” in fruit jars that was on its way to South Carolina. Two white men were driving a “new Whippet roadster” when spotted by the officers, The Sun reported.

Railroad St. project nearly complete

Railroad Street, the once-dirt and gravel road that runs parallel behind Depot Street,  is now paved with fresh lines of paint. A parking lot will soon be available on the street as well. “The street is finished. We’ve paved a section on the Depot Street side.
