Confirmed COVID-19 cases and deaths are still rising in Hart County as the White House added Georgia back into the “red zone” for coronavirus cases this week.
Hart County is still considered a “high transmission” county for COVID-19, according to the Department of Public Health.
The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:
Nov. 4
• Brandon Keith Driver, 20, 2388 Beaverdam Farm Road, was arrested and charged with false statements and writings.
Nov. 5
• Chandler Franklin Craft, 27, 1047 Stoneham Circle, Anderson, S.C.
A new fire station is in Hartwell’s future, according to Mayor Brandon Johnson.
At the Hartwell city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 2, city manager Jon Herschell said he included architecture and engineering costs for a fire station in the 2021 budget. The budget was approved by the council.
Officials around Hart County are paying tribute to a local leader who died this past week.
Derek Leonardo Cobb, 54, of Hartwell, died on Saturday, Nov. 7.
With the census now complete, Hartwell and Hart County will have an accurate tally of their population for the first time since the 2010 census.
Hart County had a self-report rate of 59.1 percent and Hartwell had a self-report rate of 60 percent.

A peculiar house for a mythical creature has taken up residence at the Hart County Library. A hand-built Gnome Home was recently built and loaned to the library by Kathy Hall.
The project was originally planned as an activity for Hall to do with her grandchildren.
