Drive-thru flu shots coming to Hart County

Flu experts at Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are encouraging people to get a flu vaccine to reduce the risk of co-infection with COVID-19. The Hart County Health Department will be offering three flu shot drive-throughs in October.

Health experts are concerned about co-infection of both influenza and COVID-19, but precautions against COVID may also be preventing the spread of the flu, they say. Flu season is ending in the Southern Hemisphere and starting in the Northern Hemisphere.

Oct. 6, 1944 — Walker P. Herring paid off his 40-year, $2,452 loan 36 years ahead of schedule. According to usinflationcalculator.com, the loan would be worth $41,809 in today’s money. The loan was for his 50-acre farm in the Eagle Grove community. He paid  down $2,108.

Quarantines prompt school closure

Hartwell Elementary School shut down for in-person learning this week due to multiple staff members being quarantined and others awaiting COVID-19 test results. Superintendent Jay Floyd made the announcement Friday, Sept. 25 that Hartwell Elementary would be closed the week of Sept.

Former Training School to get historical marker

The Ultimate Bullfighter league stopped in Bowersville on Saturday, Sept. 26, to wow a crowd of around 1,000 people who gathered just outside of town to watch 12 daring competitors get in the ring with Spanish fighting bulls. Unlike traditional bullfighting, the bulls aren’t harmed or killed.
