A tree grows in Hartwell

Actually, several new trees grow in Hartwell. Hartwell street crews planted DeGroot’s spire trees, trident maples and a dwarf Japanese maple along Depot Street Monday, Nov.

Virus cancels football game

Friday night’s Region 8-AAA match-up between Hart County and Stephens County is cancelled due to COVID-19 quarantines, school officials announced Thursday.

Charter system is biz of month

The Hart County Charter System is the Hart County Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the month for November. Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the school system has had to adapt to numerous changes and modifications to stay on track with its goals.

Royston man arrested for child exploitation

A Royston man is facing felony charges in Hart County for allegedly distributing child pornography, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced last week. Uriah Carter Cummings, 33, of Royston, was arrested on Oct.

Ax throwing comes to Hartwell

An ax throwing venue is one of several new businesses on tap or to have opened in downtown Hartwell in 2020. Sublime Axe Throwing is set to add a new entertainment outlet to downtown when it opens, which is projected for December.

City sets budget, hears about Oakview

The millage rate will be rolled back in 2021 from 10.3 to 9.91 thanks to a $100,000 cut to the city of Hartwell’s budget. City manager Jon Herschell presented the second reading of the 2021 city budget at the city council meeting Monday, Nov. 2.

Scarecrow winners announced

This was a great year for the annual Scarecrow Bash, organizers say. Hartwell Main Street and the Downtown Development Authority reports there were several hundred eligible votes this year in the people’s choice award. “We thought they were home runs.
