City begins making plans for new firehouse

A new fire station is in Hartwell’s future, according to Mayor Brandon Johnson. At the Hartwell city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 2, city manager Jon Herschell said he included architecture and engineering costs for a fire station in the 2021 budget. The budget was approved by the council.

Census participation makes mayor hopeful

With the census now complete, Hartwell and Hart County will have an accurate tally of their population for the first time since the 2010 census. Hart County had a self-report rate of 59.1 percent and Hartwell had a self-report rate of 60 percent.

Gnome Home graces Hart County Library

A peculiar house for a mythical creature has taken up residence at the Hart County Library. A hand-built Gnome Home was recently built and loaned to the library by Kathy Hall. The project was originally planned as an activity for Hall to do with her grandchildren.

Shore plan requires electrical inspection

A new shoreline management plan on Lake Hartwell could mean more expenses for lakeside residents with electricity running to their dock. Under the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers recently released Shoreline Management Plan (SMP) that goes into effect on Nov.

Service League sells cookbooks

The Hartwell Service League is selling cookbooks to make up for 2020’s fundraisers canceled because of  COVID-19 concerns.
