Husband, wife open pair of Ridge Road stores

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Sept. 9 to officially open two new businesses owned separately by husband and wife duo, Terri and Melissa Black. The new businesses are located at 78 Ridge Road, where they operate out of the same building. Storage Master is owned and operated by Terri Black.

Author releases latest novel about Melungeon life

Hartwell resident Darlene Nixon’s writing career hit another milestone with the release of her newest novel based upon her mother’s life. Nixon began her writing career a decade ago when she published her first novel and has since continued to write about subjects that are meaningful to her.

BOE approves raises for substitute teachers

The Hart County Board of Education approved a pay increase last week to substitute teachers and lowered the millage rate. The board voted anonymously at a called meeting Sept. 16 to increase the pay rate for substitute teachers in  the Hart County Charter System.

XC teams finish both fifth at meet

The Hart County cross country teams ran in the Franklin County Pridelands Invitational 2021 on Saturday, Sept. 11. The boys team finished fifth overall with 106 points. The top finisher for the boys was senior Zachary Benner who finished third overall with a time of 17:33.82.

Softball adds wins to region record

The Hart County softball team adds two region wins and loses a non-region this past week. The Lady Diamond Dogs started off strong with a 17-3 win at home against Monroe Area on Friday, Sept. 10. The win came in only four innings because of the mercy rule.

The Hart County Middle School football team became the main attraction in Herndon Stadium this weekend after the cancellation of the high school game. The Bullpups played Madison County and lost 38-24 on Thursday, Sept. 9.

A new unofficial mascot has taken the sideline at the Hart County football games. The five-month English Bulldog puppy named “Lil’ Bit O’ Honey,” or Honey for short, has stolen the hearts of the Bulldog Nation.
