1954: A total of 90,500 forest trees were shipped to Hart County by the Georgia Forestry Commission to be seeded for reforestation purposes. The commission shipped Hart County 82,500 Loblolly Pines and 8,000 Arizona Cypresses.

GSP arrests man in Hartwell for alleged ecstasy trafficking

A man was arrested for allegedly trafficking 65 grams of ecstasy, as well as being in possession of marijuana, edibles and cocaine, at a traffic stop on Aug. 6. According to the incident report, Georgia State Patrol stopped Robney Lequanta Roberts, 33, of Fairfax, S.C.

Hart County sisters meet long lost sibling after revelation from 23&Me DNA kit

By Gail Manter Contributor The lives of two Hartwell women and a man from Surprise, Arizona were forever changed by one recent DNA test as a birthday gift. In September 2020, Chuck Christensen received a unique birthday gift from his son, Sean — a 23&Me kit for genetic testing.

Hartwell native announces bid for city council

Hartwell native Dan Leard entered his name as a Hartwell city council candidate this week for the seat currently occupied by Arthur Craft, who will not seek reelection. “I was born and raised in Hartwell,” Leard said.
