HCHS students become CTAE certified, SkillsUSA team places at national event

Hartwell man survives fall from bucket truck

A Georgia state trooper may have saved the life of a Hartwell-native after he fell out of his bucket truck. Hart Telephone Company worker, Chris Minervino,  50, fell out of his bucket truck while working in Martin on June 25.

Sheriff’s Office introduces scent kits for wanderers

The Hart County Sheriff’s office is offering Scent Evidence kits to better track people with a propensity to wander. The kits are comprised of an airtight jar and a piece of gauze that can be used to swab the person’s underarm and save the scent for bloodhounds to track if the person gets lost.

A man drowned at Big Oaks Recreation Area on Independence Day. Armando Esteban  Sanchez Martinez, 22, of Greer, S.C. was pulled out of Lake Hartwell by another individual in the area on the afternoon of Sunday, July 4.

Barnes Academy teacher charged with sex with student

The Anderson County Sheriff’s office arrested a woman regarding a  sexual relationship between a teacher and student at Barnes Academy. Heather Kathleen Laun, 34, was arrested and charged with sex / sexual battery with a student 16 or 17 years of age on June 22.

Hartwell Tri draws region’s athletes

Triathletes from across the southeast U.S. gathered in Hartwell on June 26 to compete in the annual Hartwell Y Triathlon. The event, hosted by the Bell Family YMCA, took place at the Big Oaks Recreation Area on Lake Hartwell and offered two race distances to accommodate athletes of all levels.
