The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: June 22 •William Marshall Wilson, 39, was arrested and charged with criminal attempt to commit a felony forgery and printing, executing, negotiation checks, drafts, etc.

1957- The White Spot Grocery on North Elbert Street and a storage building next door were heavily damaged by a fire the previous Friday  night. The fire was discovered by Mrs. Frank White at 11:05 p.m. and the Hartwell Fire Department had the blaze under control within 30 minutes.

Hart County Head Start registration open for 3-4 year olds

The Hart County Head Start / Early Head Start / Pre-K Program is registering children for the 2021-2022 school year. No cost to program participants. HEAD START Child must be 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1, 2021 to be eligible for this program.

Tiny Stitches set for July 15

Tiny Stitches Workshop will be held July 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you sew, quilt, knit, or crochet, join your fellow crafters to cut out and make garments and bedding for disadvantaged newborns. All materials, patterns, and instructions are provided.

BOC honors longtime deputy clerk

Debra Scott was honored with a plaque of appreciation at the Hart County Board of Commissioners meeting on June 22 for her 24 years of service to the Hart County court system. Scott retired as a deputy clerk from the clerk of courts office.

New fire station coming to Hart County

A new county fire department building will be built in Hart County, following approval at a called meeting June 29. The Hart County Board of Commissioners accepted a bid for Premier Building Systems, Inc. for the amount of $124,950.

Rotary honors late past-president Butler

The 2020-21 Hartwell Rotary year came to a close last Thursday with the President’s Picnic along Lake Hartwell. Attendees enjoyed smoked meat courtesy of superintendent and Rotary member Jay Floyd, and watched an emotional awards ceremony that followed.

Hartwell boasts another Lake Living cover winner

When Hart County’s Anna Welch was watching the sunset outside her lake home this time two years ago, she pulled out her iPhone and knew she nailed the shot. It didn’t matter that she wasn’t using an expensive camera. “The sky was just vibrant orange that night,” Welch remembered.

Local woman turns 105

Hart County’s Doris Mahannah celebrated her 105th birthday with her church, Hartwell First Presbyterian Church, on Sunday, June 27. Mahannah, who moved to Hartwell in 2012, has lived through two pandemics and beat cancer twice.
