Hartwell First Methodist Church Preschool receives certification, celebrates graduates

Hartwell First United Methodist Church Preschool has recently been certified as a “Program of Excellence for Young Children” by the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Main Street America accredits Hartwell

Hartwell has been reaccredited as a state and national main street city for the  24th year. Hartwell’s main street program has been a part of Main Street America since 1997. The purpose of the program is to revitalize, promote, and beautify downtown Hartwell.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: June 1 • James Dylan Williams, 28, 196 Fairview Avenue, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of drug related objects and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

1957 - The Hartwell Sun moved to a new location on  the corner of Depot and Carolina Street in Hartwell. The building was formerly occupied by Hart County Electric Membership Corporation and was completely redecorated.

Hartwell Dam floodgates open

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tested the spillway gates at the Hartwell Dam on Wednesday, June, 11. The tests, which result in a spectacle resembling a waterfall for viewers, are done periodically to ensure the gates would open properly in the event of an emergency.

NSDAR honors veterans

The  Johnson Benson Chapter, NSDAR, honored veterans recently at their May program luncheon. The theme was “Celebrating America, Honoring Our American Flag and Military Veterans”. Sara Lesseur introduced the program’s speaker, Dawn M. Lemay, of the Department of Georgia, VFW Auxiliary.

City of Hartwell launches updated government website

The City of Hartwell now has a new website and city manager Jon Herschell thinks it will be more accessible for people. “It’s more interactive,” Herschell said. “I think some of our online bill-access is better.

Hart County 4-H members earn Forestry Day awards

Three Hart County 4-H’ers, who competed in Georgia 4-H’s State Forestry Field Day Competitions, were all recognized for top five placements at the Hart County 4-H Annual Awards Program.
