Hart County Republican Party elects new officers

The Hart County Republican Party’s monthly meeting is the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Hart County Adult Learning Center, 110 Benson St., Hartwell.

City to shed light on Depot Street

The lights of downtown Hartwell will soon be even more plentiful – and at times, more colorful. The Hartwell City Council voted to allot $55,000 for the purchase and installation of “tracking lights” to go along the tops of the buildings on Depot Street, during its April meeting Monday.

City debates, approves MLK mural

The Hartwell City Council debated the proposition for a new downtown mural, inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., before voting unanimously to allow a mural and earmark the funds – while requiring further approval of a design in the future during Monday’s regular meeting.

High-speed chase hits Hart

A high-speed chase of an alleged stolen car that started in South Carolina ended in Hart County with a tasing and two arrests Tuesday afternoon, but not before doing damage to two patrol cars and the knee of a Hart County deputy.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   March 21   Austin Bryson, 24, of Commerce was arrested and charged with DUI, open container in the vehicle, possession of drug related objects, possession of marijuana, and possession of cocaine.

Hart EMC, Farm Bureau donate book to library

The Georgia Foundation for Agriculture and Georgia Electric Membership Corporation (EMC) are jointly promoting agricultural literacy by donating copies of the children’s book “I Love Strawberries” to nearly 400 libraries in the Georgia Public Library Service (GPLS).
For 2023 the Vietnam Memorial on the grounds of the Hart County Courthouse in Hartwell is included as one of Georgia’s seven memorials.

Vietnam Memorial in 2023 Tour of Honor

The year 2023 will be the 13th year for Tour of Honor [Tour], a self-directed motorcycle ride that honors American heroes such as military veterans, first responders and American workers, and takes place from Spring until Fall.
