Hart County recorded one of the highest graduation rates in the state, as Georgia’s overall graduation rate continues to rise, the Georgia Department of Education recently announced. Hart County eclipsed the state average graduation rate of 82 percent with a 94.

Scarecrow judging area grows

The same judging zone as in years past will be used again for this year’s Scarecrow Bash in downtown Hartwell. Plans were initially in the works this year to require that scarecrows competing in the judged and people’s choice compeitions be placed on the courthouse square.

Happy memories are precious to Mary Jo Shiflet — so much so that she ran both a catering business and a florist business called Precious Memories. Many of those memories are visible in her brick ranch home outside of Hartwell.

Artsy-Crafty Yard Sale is coming to The Art Center

The  Artsy-Crafty Yard Sale is coming to The Art Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Anyone who has a closet full of unused or nearly forgotten arts and crafts materials, such as how-to books, picture frames, posters, patterns, fabric and yarn, is invited to participate.

4-H'ers finish 7th place in national competition
