Grant to bring high-interest books to teens

It has been months of waiting, but Hart County High School Assistant Principal Tracey Stewart finally received word this month her school was chosen out of an application field of thousands of entries to be awarded funding to expand literacy promotion.

EMS substation nearing completion

The newly constructed Hart County EMS substation in the Crossroads community is nearing completion after months of not being used. “The building itself is done,” Hart County EMA Director Terrell Partain said. Minus a few minor indoor finishes, the inside is complete.

'Saye's Boys' remember beloved coach

Legendary Hart County coach and University of Georgia football player William Albert “Bill” Saye died on Sept. 10, having touched the lives of many people along his life’s journey.

How to save a life

Raisel HM/RA embraced a group of first responders like he would his brothers on Sept. 12. He is not related to any of them and until Aug. 8, had never met them.

47 pounds of meth seized in Hart County

The Hart County Sheriff's Office seized 47 pounds of candles on Sept. 11 — candles made of methamphetamine. The bust set a new mark for the biggest meth bust in the sheriff's office history.

Homecoming parade set for Sept. 25

The Hart County High School Homecoming Parade will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 25. The parade will include Hart County schools, clubs and organizations, the JROTC, marching band, cheerleaders, football players Bulldog Court participants and Miss Homecoming participants and many more.

Everyday life can turn disastrous in an instant. Examples of active shooters, hostage situations and much more appear in state and national headlines every day. That’s why SWAT, or special weapons and tactics,  trained officers at the Hartwell Police Department have to be ready.

County plans to roll back millage rate again

The Hart County Board of Commissioners plan to roll back the millage rate for property taxes again this year. The board voted unanimously at a commission meeting Tuesday to tentatively set the millage rate for the 2019 tax year at 5.890, a decline from 5.961 the previous year.
