Wastewater capacity to increase at industrial park

The City of Hartwell is set to get $2.5 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce to improve its wastewater treatment plant that serves the Hart County Industrial Park, where Nestle-Purina is building a production facility.

Local 4-H'ers win forestry competition in region

Hart County Junior 4-H’ers competed in the Georgia 4-H’s Northeast District Area Forestry Field Day Competition at the Thompson Mills Forest and State Arboretum in Braselton on Sept. 17. Forestry Field Day is a competitive judging contest in which 4-H students identify trees, insects and diseases.

A statewide program is coming to Hart County that will provide fresh meat to an area food charity. Hart County’s program will be the 20th in the state through Georgia Hunters for the Hungry, an initiative of the Georgia Wildlife Federation.

Trial of accused doctor postponed for illness

A former Hart County doctor was set to stand trial for alleged child molestation crimes on Monday, but the trial was postponed. Tommy Charles Beeson, 72, of Hartwell, was scheduled to be in Hart County Superior Court on Monday, Sept.

FCA's Fields of Faith coming back this month

Students from both Hart and Elbert counties will join thousands of other youth on athletic fields across the nation on Wednesday, Oct. 30 to share their Christian faith with fellow students during the 16th annual national Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ (FCA, www.fca.org) Fields of Faith event.

Hartwell’s planning and zoning commission is recommending the city council deny a request to turn the Skelton House Bed and Breakfast on Benson Street into an event venue and theater. The commission voted 4-0, with commission member Duane Hall abstaining, on Sept.

Slow and steady: Giant tortoise found after months-long sojourn

“Houdini” is home. Or “Clyde”, if you’re the Ogle family. Or “Peanut” if you’re the previous owners. Regardless, back in April, the Ogles thought they might never see their beloved, massive tortoise ever again after he slipped out of their yard and into the wilderness.
