Hartwell City Councilman Tray Hicks received the Certificate of Dedication award from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute during the Georgia Municipal Association’s Cities United Summit in Atlanta on Sunday, Jan. 26.

Deanna Howell set up her shot like a pro, staring down the pool cue as she shifted back-and-forth in her hands. She pushed the cue forward with force, but not with the intended results. The cue ball fell into the corner pocket — a scratch.

MISS HCHS CROWNED

Caroline Page was crowned Miss Hart County High School on Feb. 1 at the Lonnie Burns Fine Arts Center on campus at Hart County High School. Page, who also won Miss Congeniality, competed against 13 other girls from all four grades for the title.

City is now gun owners’ sanctuary

The Hartwell City Council  at its Feb. 3 meeting made Hartwell a sanctuary for the Second Amendment, agreed to accept the lowest bidder for the Hartwell train depot renovations and added discussion of putting liquor stores on the November ballot to next month’s agenda.

Murder suspect sent back to prison

A murder suspect is going back to prison after allegedly killing a man and injuring a woman on Jan. 27, violating his probation. Larrendrick Tabor, 26, of Hartwell, appeared before Superior Court Judge Chris Phelps Tuesday morning and waived his right to a probation revocation hearing.

Alleged meth trafficker nabbed in Hart County

The first drug trafficking arrest of 2020 in Hart County resulted in the seizure of approximately 95 grams of methamphetamine. Mark Darin Outz, 50, of 2153 Rehobeth Road, Bowman, was arrested at the Daynite Inn in Hartwell on Jan. 24 and charged with trafficking methamphetamine.

Commissioners urge CodeRED signup

After a man of accused of killing another man in Hart County was at large most of Monday night and Tuesday morning, Chairmen Joey Dorsey encouraged citizens to sign up for CodeRed at the Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday night.
