A local woman gave churches quite a scare on Easter Sunday when she threatened violence to unnamed churches in Hartwell.

The Hartwell Police Department issued a be-on-the-lookout for the woman on April 11 after she allegedly posted a Facebook Live video ranting about massacring people in a church, Hartwell Assistant Police Chief Stan Sayer said.

Local churches were contacted by law enforcement about the potential threat and were told to be on the lookout for her vehicle, Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said, just before she was located on April 12.

Sayer said the woman was transported to be evaluated for mental health issues.

The woman is facing misdemeanor drug charges in Hart County, but her alleged statements online did not constitute a crime, authorities said.

“She didn’t meet the threshold for a crime, but it did raise concern based on the statements that she made,” Sayer said. “Under the statute, you have to have a person identified as the one who is going to be killed or threatened, and it didn’t meet it because it was just so vague … however, we still needed to talk to her.”
