City considers new zoning rules

Proposed amendments to Hartwell’s zoning ordinances would scrap the potential for mobile homes in single and multiple-family residential districts, while also modernizing rules within the city limits, city leaders said Monday night.

Visitors have been far-and-few-between for the past few weeks at Annie’s Pretty Pieces in Hartwell, but a steady stream of quilters have been coming through to pick-up supplies for a local effort aiming to ease the shortage of masks during the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Georgia chief justice extends judicial emergency

By Dave Williams Capitol Beat News Service   ATLANTA - Georgia Chief Justice Harold Melton Monday extended the statewide judicial emergency in effect because of the coronavirus pandemic until May 13. Melton first declared the emergency on March 14 and set it to expire on April 13.

Graduation for Hart County seniors is postponed, but not canceled, the school system announced Thursday, following the statewide order from Governor Brian Kemp to cancel in-person instruction for the remainder of the academic year at all public schools.

Starting at 6 p.m. Friday and until 11:59 p.m. April 13, all residents of Georgia are ordered to shelter in place, or stay at home, unless they leave to conduct essential business, maintain minimal business operations or to obtain necessary supplies.
