Wine, cheese, jazz event to return

The Friends of Hart County Library will host their annual “Wine, Cheese and a Little Jazz” event at 6 p.m. on Jan. 30 at the Art Center in Hartwell. As the name of the event implies, people can expect wine and cheese to be served at the event.

Jan. 5, 1951 — Selective Service drafted 15 Hart County men at the start of the year in 1951 during the Korean War. The U.S. Army ordered 80,000 men be drafted due to an increasing need for manpower, The Hartwell Sun reported.

Commissioners plan reelection bids

Hart County Commissioners Joey Dorsey and Marshall Sayer both announced at the Hart County Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14, that they will run for reelection this year. Dorsey, current chairman of District 5, has been in office since 2001.

Hart County Superintendent Jay Floyd hopes to add some programs at the Hart College and Career Academy in 2020 and said he plans for the Hart County Charter System to continue improving in the new year.  Floyd said he is looking forward to “another great year.

Cooler weather set to arrive

After storms pummeled  Hart County this week, cooler weather appears to be around the corner. A strong band of storms blew through Hart County over the past weekend and brought with them unusually warm weather, with highs reaching the 70s.

Deputies credited with saving man from overdose

A man is alive today and recovering from an overdose thanks to the quick thinking of Hart County deputies Steve Williams and Matt Sparrow. The two Hart County Sheriff’s deputies were working third-shift, the late-night hours, on Jan.

Searchers find body of missing boater

The body of a boater missing on Lake Hartwell since Wednesday was found Friday in the area around Sadlers Creek State Park in South Carolina.  Searchers located the body of David Dean, 69, in the water around 10:30 a.m. Friday near the South Carolina park, said Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland.
