Graduation, prom plans set for Summer

Plans for graduation, prom and the end of the school year are moving forward as dates and times were announced on Friday, May 8. Prom is scheduled for July 11 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. with the location to be determined at a later date, the school system announced Friday.

Food needs increasing in Hart

The number of families needing food in Hart County has gone up by an estimated 20 percent and local non-profits are ramping up their efforts to meet those needs as residents continue to cope with the economic impacts of the novel coronavirus pandemic, organizers say.

Board of education talks budget

A 14 percent budget cut to the local school system is challenging the board of education with some tough decisions, and could lead to higher property taxes, furlough days, a cut to the local pay supplement or a reduction in force.

Virus numbers growing in Hart County

The number of COVID-19 infections in a local nursing home continued to rise over the past week as the cumulative total of confirmed cases in Hart County grew to 18 and state officials continued to lay out plans for re-opening businesses shuttered due to the pandemic.

Cumulative cases of COVID-19 now at 18 in Hart County

There have now been 18 confirmed cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Hart County residents since the state Department of Public Health began tracking them in March.  The number has now nearly doubled in the past two weeks since Georgia began phase one of reopening businesses that were closed under Gov.

K-9 Justice retires to life of leisure

Police officer Sherod Blackwell won’t have his best partner riding the streets of Hartwell with him at work anymore. Instead, his four-legged companion of nine years will enjoy the finer things in life as he enters retirement.
