Snow falls, sticks over weekend

Hart County received about two inches of snow over the weekend, as a result of flurries starting in the early hours of Sunday, Jan. 15 and lasting throughout much of the day. The area avoided notable dangerous incidents and power outages as a result of the weather.

City buys 1.3-acre site downtown for parking

The City of Hartwell is under contract to buy land adjacent to the city hall for parking. At a called meeting on Jan. 14, the council decided to move forward in acquiring a 1.305 acre tract of land from Kenneth and Kay Legg for $225,000.

As one of Hart County’s oldest businesses, Skelton-Morris Associates has been helping people insure their assets for more than 110 years. The business began in 1912 when A.C “Gus” Skelton began writing insurance policies in Hartwell, calling his firm A.C. Skelton Insurance Agency.

The Lady Dogs won in an overtime thriller against the then 13-1 East Jackson Eagles. The Hart County high school girls basketball team defeated the Eagles 68-65 on Friday, Jan. 14 at home.

After a slow start, the Hart County boys basketball team rolled past East Jackson to remain undefeated in region. The Bulldogs beat the Eagles 78-46 on Friday, Jan.14. After not scoring until four minutes into the game, the Dogs unleased a barrage and tallied 17 before the first quarter ran out.
