Residents report swollen winter power bill costs

By Drew Dotson Staff writer   Several Hart County residents took to Facebook to complain about abnormally high  electric bills for the month of January. Some people said via Facebook their bills doubled what they normally expect. “I do know some components of our billing have gone up.

Polar Bear Plungers benefit Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence

Brave souls lined up to jump into a frigid Lake Hartwell to raise money for the Northeast Georgia Council on Domestic Violence on Saturday, Feb. 26. Participants were encouraged to dress up for a costume contest as they took the annual Polar Bear Plunge.

Question to allow package stores could appear on ballot: City council to mull possibility of referendum to allow for sale of liquor in shops

The Hartwell City Council will be discussing adding package stores to the ballot at its next meeting. At the February meeting, council member Tray Hicks stated that the council would in March be discussing adding a question regarding the allowance of package (liquor) stores to the next ballot.

Lady Dogs fall in first round

The Lady Dogs lost in the first round of the state playoffs to one of the top teams in Georgia. The Hart County girls basketball team traveled to Fort Oglethorpe to play the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors. The Warriors have a 28-1 record and are ranked as the top team in Georgia 3A by MaxPreps.

Diamond Dogs break losing streak at home

The Diamond Dogs snapped a five-game losing streak at home on Tuesday. The Hart County High School baseball team traveled to Athens Christian on Wednesday, Feb. 23 and lost, 9-1. Jake Dombrowsky pitched 3.2 innings for the Dogs and Reece Maxwell pitched 2.1 innings.

Soccer Dogs fall in first region match

Both soccer teams won decidedly on Friday before struggling in their first region game on Tuesday. The boys soccer team beat Westside High School in Augusta, 7-1, on Feb. 25. Axsel Fajardo scored a hat trick in the win. Freshman Chaston Lewis scored two goals.

Bulldogs go home after Sweet 16 loss on the road

The Hart County boys basketball team’s season ended in the second round of the state playoffs. On Wednesday, Feb. 23, the Bulldogs traveled to Adairsville where they won the first round of the playoffs, 54-49.
