Lady Dogs split region games

The Hart County High School girls basketball team split two region games on the road over the past week. On Wednesday, Jan. 19, the Lady Dogs traveled to Toccoa and beat the Stephens County Indians 45-30.

Bulldogs remain on top of region

The Bulldogs winning streak continued as the Hart County boys basketball team downed two more region opponents this week. The Bulldogs battled to beat Stephens County High School on the road on Wednesday, Jan. 19 to win 64-59.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: Jan. 19 •Margie Ann Brown, 47, of Bowersville, was arrested and charged with battery, probation violation and felony theft by shoplifting. Jan. 20 •Katherine Suzanne Moore, 20, of Stanton, Va.

Commissioners lament 2020 Hart census data

The Hart County Board of Commissioners was not happy with the results of the 2020 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, Hart County has seen a population increase of 615 people from 2010 to 2020. Commissioner Joey Dorsey said he thinks that number is too low.

Sheriff: jail progress slow but proceeding

Progress on the new Hart County jail is slow and steady according to sheriff Mike Cleveland. Cleveland said he had a meeting recently with the architect and construction manager for the project and plans are proceeding for the jail.
