Hart County Head Start is continuing to accept applications. The Hart County Head Start I Early Head Start I Pre-K Program is continuing to accept applications for 2022-2023 school year.  No cost to program participants.

Historical Society to reopen

The Hart County Historical Society will be reopening the Hart County Museum located at the corner of E. Howell and Athens Streets. The museum is housed in the Teasley-Holland House, and used to share the space with the Hart County Chamber of Commerce before the Chamber moved closer to downtown.

Hartwell Art Center announces juried award winners

The Hartwell Art Center hosted a juried art show on Thursday, June 16. Entries were judged  in two categories; photography and two and three dimensional work. In the photography category, Ron Kennedy was awarded best in show for his entry, “Smooth + Sweet.

State rolling out mental health crisis hotline

Georgia will soon be adopting a new direct 9-8-8 direct line to aid people in a mental health crisis. Avita Community Partner  Region East director Amy Jones compared the new direct line to the well-known emergency phone number, 9-1-1.

Hart EMC holding election for board of directors position

Hart Electric Membership Corporation is holding an election to replace a director on the board to represent District 2, Hart County. After the death of former director, Jerry Snow, two candidates were nominated to fill the vacant position: Chris Camp and Bill Leard.

Inventor looks to bring new receptacle idea to Hart County

An entrepreneur is looking to bring a brand-new trash handling service to Hart County. Gumpsters, LLLP owner Kim Herron presented his request to allow a Gumpster in Hart County at the last board of commissioners meeting on June 14.

Hartwell readies for Pre-Fourth

Pre-Fourth festivities are set to return to downtown Hartwell this Saturday, June 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There is no admission for the event, and the entire community is invited to join in the fun.

Law investigating 'person of interest' after shooting threats

Update 9:20 a.m. June 23, 2022 Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland said Thursday morning at 9 a.m. that law enforcement has identified a person of interest related to shooting threats texted to Ritz Instrument Transformers employees Monday and Wednesday.

Chief on temporary medical leave

Hartwell Police Chief Anthony Davis is temporarily out on medical leave with an indefinite return date. “He’s going to be back,” said Stan Sayer, assistant chief of police, who is acting chief in Davis’s absence. “He’s just having a medical leave right now. He’ll be back.
