Hartwell remembers its fallen heroes

On May 30, Memorial Day, Hartwell honored its fallen along with the rest of America’s war dead at Veterans Memorial Park.

Hartwell Family Practice Medical Doctor Wade Walker, 52, has accomplished the remarkable goal of running a marathon – 26.2 miles – in all 50 states of America.

GBI arrests Hartwell man on child exploitation charges

A Hartwell man was arrested and charged with five counts of sexual exploitation of children. Stephen Clay Morris, 22,  was arrested on May 19 by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office assisting. “GBI worked that case.

School system hit hard by gas inflation in 2021-22

By Dawson Baker Staff writer Most driving Americans have felt some pain at the pump caused by a steady increase in gas prices. As of Tuesday, May 27, the American Automobile Association (AAA) placed the national average at $4.62 per gallon of regular gasoline and $5.52 per gallon of diesel fuel.

Diamond dogs receive All-Region honors

Five Hart County High School baseball players were named to the all-region first team for Region 8AAA. Seniors Peyton Powell and Tanner Ayers were named first team at pitcher. Powell secured five wins for the Diamond Dogs and recorded 73 strikeouts in 53.1 innings.

Hart football battle Habersham in spring scrimmage

The Hart County High School football team traveled to Habersham Central for a friendly competition against the 6A Raiders to end spring training. The game between the two teams May 20 was structured differently from a normal game.

1984: A 1985 International Harvester vehicle went missing in the early morning hours on a Sunday at the Bagwell Brother’s dealership in Goldmine. The massive tractor was valued at $74,000 in 1985 dollars, but would be $198,829 in 2022 currency.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests: May 18 •Kristi Jackson Hurley, 35, was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking and disorderly conduct. •Markale Martin, 25 of Hartwell, was arrested and charged with battery and three counts of cruelty to children.

Property Owners talk fishing

The Hart County Property Owners Association had a departure from its regular May meeting. They invited Hartwell’s Captain Cephus McRae from Nuts and Bolts of Fishing (pictured above). He brought his own boat, lots of rods and lures, equipment, and his fishing dog Buck.
