Hartwell celebrates Pre-Fourth

The annual Pre-Fourth Extravaganza took place in Hartwell on Saturday, arguably the most notable festival weekend each year. A record amount of more than 160 vendor booths attended the parade and market portion and a similarly large crowd made its way to Hartwell for the festivities.

‘Person of interest’ under investigation for shooting threats

Update 1:00 p.m. June 29, 2022 Law enforcement identified a person of interest last week related to shooting threats texted to Ritz Instrument Transformers employees on June 20 and June 22.

Charter System buys 67-acre plot for ‘future growth’

The Hart County Charter System is purchasing 67.82 acres on Bowman Highway for “future growth,” according to superintendent Jay Floyd. In a called meeting on June 27, the Hart County Board of Education approved entering into contract between G.F. Parker Inc.

Hart County High School hosts youth softball camp

The Hart County High School softball team held a camp on June 20 and 21 to help youth players hone their skills. The camp lasted from 8 to 11:30 a.m. both days and the campers worked on skills such as hitting, pitching, bunting, fielding and base running.

Hart softball state bound: Hart beats Franklin to win District 7 tournament

The Hart County Little League 8-to-10-year-old All-Star softball team was crowned District 7 Champion after beating Franklin County twice this past weekend. Hart played Franklin in a best of three series to determine the District 7 representative in the state tournament.

Synovus donates to REACH scholarship fund

The Hart County Education Foundation accepted a $1,000 donation last week from Synovus of Hartwell to benefit the REACH Hart scholarship.

Hart County Board of Education recognized for financial reporting

The Hart County Board of Education was recognized at the state level for excellence in financial reporting. The board was recently honored with the Award of Distinction for Excellent Financial Reporting from the Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts for the 2021 fiscal year.

We are glad to see the Hart County Board of Commissioners listening to “both sides” in the recent short-term rental ordinance issue. As is the case with most controversial topics that come before our county’s elected officials, this issue is nuanced.
