Woman killed in Bowersville wreck

A woman was killed in a two-car accident at the intersection of Lankford and Adams Town Roads on Thursday, Aug. 4. According to Hart County Sheriff Mike Cleveland, Satira Leverette, 50, was crossing Lankford Road from Adams Town Road and did not come to a brake at the four-way stop.

Forming connections: CSP offers new opportunities for special needs families

Children are a blessing but sometimes parents need help with their blessing. Connections for Special Parents (CSP) is one such organization that seeks to do exactly that. Located in Royston, CSP was formed to support and connect parents/caregivers raising a child with special needs.

As you may have noticed, I have not had many bylines in the main section of The Hartwell Sun over the past couple weeks. This is because I have asked to exclusively cover sports for the foreseeable future.

Van Dora to be named to Hall of Fame

A local attorney is set to be added to the Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame. The Glynn County Sports Hall of Fame announced its 2023 induction class on Friday, July 15 including Hartwell resident  and attorney Tash Van Dora.

Volleydogs’ expectations set high for 2022 season

Hart County volleyball head coach Kate Beardsley is expecting a strong season. “They’re really strong. We are very fortunate that a lot of our starting players, our key players, are returning this year. We lose a lot with our seniors last year, but we also filled it in.

New coaches take field for first week of practice

While new head football coach Cory Dickerson will be a familiar face, several new coaches will be along the sideline at Herndon Stadium this fall. In total, five new assistant coaches have been added this offseason for the Hart County football team.

1916: The Southern states were allotted to receive $850,933  of the $5 million federal road fund, according to The Hartwell Sun. Georgia received the most funding, coming in at $134, 329.     1985: Janice Hartwell Cox had waited about six years to visit the town of her namesake.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   July 26 •Nicholas Daniel, 50, of Elberton, was arrested and charged with DUI, driving on the wrong side of road, no tail lights, no seat belt and probation violation.
