BOE honors state champions, revises capital assets manual

Through a unanimous vote, the Hart County Board of Education (BOE) approved changes to its Capital Assets Manual during its regularly scheduled meeting Nov. 13. The manual, which was last revised in January, outlines financial reporting requirements concerning accounting for capital assets.

Hart BOC debates land development standards

On the evening of Nov. 14, the Hart County Board of Commissioners had a notably brief meeting, concluding in about an hour. Notable topics of discussion included land development, as well as efforts to improve road safety and mental health among Georgians.

2023 Pigskin Pickin’ Champion crowned

Our final round of Pigskin Pickin’ concluded this past week, and a new champion was crowned. After a long and competitive season between our expert pickers, Living Down South’s realtor Stephanie Walker was crowned the 2023 Pigskin Pickin’ Champion, and will have a year’s worth of bragging rights.

Four Lady Dogs tabbed for All-Region honors

On Monday, Nov. 6, Region 8-AAA announced their All-Region teams for the 2023 softball season, and four Lady Dogs were selected. One Lady Dog was selected for first team All-Region and that was senior outfielder Allie O’Bannon.

Cross Country teams place in Top 15 at state meet

The Hart County High School boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Carrollton to compete in the 2023 GHSA AAA State Cross Country Championships, where the boys placed eighth and the girls placed 15th.

Lady Dogs to rely on senior leadership in 2023-2024 campaign

The Hart County Lady Dogs basketball team will look to rely on senior leadership to lead them to a potential historic season. A season ago, the Lady Dogs went 19-9 overall and fell to Dawson County at home in the first round of the state playoffs, 41-34.

Dogs wiped out of playoff contention by Purple Hurricanes

Hart’s late comeback against Monroe Area falls short 23-14, and ends the Dogs season. Hart traveled to Monroe Area to take on the Purple Hurricanes with playoff implications on the line, as there was a four way tie between Hart, Oconee, Monroe Area, and Hebron Christian.

Hart to move to AA starting in the fall of 2024

The Georgia High School Association [GHSA] announced on Nov. 2 the classification placement of all teams for 2024-2026. During the announcement, Hart County, Stephens County, Franklin County, and Hebron Christian will move down to AA from AAA.

The Hart County Sheriff’s Office reported the following arrests:   Oct. 31   Starling Cawley, 60, of Bowman was arrested and charged with speeding, expired vehicle tag or decal, and DUI.   Nov. 1   Darren Dye, 56, of Hartwell was arrested and charged with simple battery - family violence.

My father, Ron Fargason, has never been much of a crier. In my 46 years on this Earth, I’ve seen my 76-year-old dad cry a total of three times. The first two instances are obvious choices.
