I will be the first to admit, I had a completely different column written out for this week, as I had planned on writing about the Class of 2024 as a whole and how they will be one of the most talented athletic classes to ever walk the halls of Hart County High School.

Genchi becomes first to be named Region Player of the Year

For the first time in program history, boys soccer’s senior midfielder Luis Genchi wins Region 8-AAA Player of the Year. At the 2024 soccer banquet on May 16, Soccer Dogs head coach Ben Hudson announced the All-Region team and then proceeded to let everyone exit the stage except Genchi.

Dogs and Raiders end Spring Game in a tie

After turning the ball over three times in the first half, the second half comeback ended the 2024 Spring Game in a tie against the Raiders of Habersham Central. On May 17, the Dogs made the trip up the mountain to Mt. Airy, Ga. to take on the Raiders of Habersham in the 2024 Spring Game.

My favorite Hart County graduate

I took over the publisher role for The Hartwell Sun around the same time the Class of 2024 was embarking on their senior year at Hart County High School. When I got here, the paper had been without and editor for nine months and without a reporter for three months.

The Holts celebrate 60 years of marriage

It is a true accomplishment and a testament to a couple’s dedication to each other to reach the 60-year anniversary milestone. Such is the story of Hartwell-based Howard and Alexandria “Sandy” Holt, who celebrated six decades of marriage on May 22.
