Lesson in human decency can be learned in grammar school

When I was in elementary school—it was either the sixth or seventh grade—my classmates elected me to fight a boy named Johnny because he supposedly was picking on smaller kids. It was almost an honor. The fight took place down at the railroad tracks near the school.

A very trying week

The last eight months, I patiently waited for the week of July 15 to arrive. While I’ve never been a big video game guy, there was always one game that used to keep me glued to the TV screen like an adolescent: NCAA College Football.

Renovations to the Arts Center poised to ‘bring art to the masses’

On Monday, construction began on a massive renovation to The Arts Center of Hartwell on the downtown square. The hub of Northeast Georgia’s regional arts community, the Arts Center building, located on the corner of E. Howell and Carolina Streets has been condemned for more than a year.
The gymnasium in the Rome area, which the revitalization executive committee hopes to restore. The future role of the building will be decided after more progress is made on housing renovations.
