Schools celebrate reading, breakfast

The first week of March will mark two special occasions for the Hart County nutrition department, National School Breakfast Week  Read Across America Week.

Feb. 27, 1920 — It paid to drive a Ford in 1920 — literally. In an article printed in the Feb. 27, 1920 edition of The Hartwell Sun, officials urged drivers to buy their vehicle tags soon or they would be facing fines from law enforcement.

Hart County employee indicted

A Hart County employee who was arrested on felony drug and theft charges on New Year’s Eve is now facing drug trafficking charges in Hart County Superior Court following a grand jury indictment handed down last week. Roads superintendent Jeffrey Dean Smart, of Hartwell, was arrested Dec.

Grand jury charges murder suspect

A man accused of murdering another man, wounding a woman and leading law enforcement on an overnight manhunt was indicted last week by a Hart County grand jury. Larrendrick Rashad Tabor, 26, of Hartwell, was arrested the morning of Jan. 28 while walking down Ga.

Middle schooler tops at FFA speaking event

Hannah Coker readily admits, she has a competitive spirit. The sixth-grader at Hart County Middle School runs track, she’s a cheerleader, she takes part in her family’s beekeeping business. Now she can add being a Future Farmers of America competition winner to her resumé.  On Jan.

Musical show comes to playhouse

The play “Pump Boys and Dinettes” opens Feb. 21 and runs through Feb. 29 at Savannah River Playhouse. It is a musical featuring all new country and western songs.  The Pump Boys sell high octane on Highway 57 and the Dinettes run the Double Cupp Diner next door.
