Hartwell is a tree city again

Hartwell is a tree city once again. The city was named a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation in honor of its commitment to effective urban forest management. This year’s recognition marks the 25th year Hartwell has received this recognition.

Spelling Bee to raise money for literacy

The Nancy Hart Literacy Council is hosting its 19th Annual Spelling Bee on March 19 to raise money for  the Adult Learning Center. Teams of three adult spellers will compete against each other at the lower level of the Hart County Adult Learning Center.

Antique Boat Show returns to Hartwell

The unofficial kickoff of the 2020 lake season is right around the corner with the Lake Hartwell Antique Boat Festival on Saturday, April 18. The Blue Ridge Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society will host the festival for the 31st consecutive year at Hartwell Marina.

Officials hope for more tourism

Tourism had a $25.88 million impact on Hart County in 2018, according to the U.S. Travel Association, but local officials have plans they hope will make that number grow.

Hart County fire called arson by investigators

Fire investigators are offering $10,000 for information leading to answers after a house in Hart County they say was intentionally lit on fire burned to the ground. An unoccupied home at 998 Zipps Road went up in flames around 6:40 p.m. on Feb.

An allegedly intoxicated driver, who plowed her car into the guardrail on Interstate 85, led to one deputy’s first-ever methamphetamine-trafficking bust late Sunday night. Melony Hogan, 38, of 305 26th Street, Ellijay, was arrested around 11:30 p.m.
