Six local and state races will see competition in this year in either the primary or general elections. County Commission District 1 The race with the most competitors is for the District 1 seat on the Hart County Board of Commissioners, currently held by suspended commissioner R.C. Oglesby.

Hart Community Theatre hosting children's workshop

Hart County Community Theatre is hosting its annual children’s workshop again this summer and will feature Disney’s “The Lion King Kids.” Registration and auditions are set for 3-5 p.m., March 6-8 at the theater, 83 Depot St., in downtown Hartwell.

Bow-Wow Meow returns

Bow-Wow Meow Bingo is coming back to benefit the Hart County Humane Society. The event will be from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday, March 27, at Casa Grande, 392 Franklin St., in Hartwell. Tickets are $20 per person and include a buffet lunch, a drink, the tip and two free bingo cards.

University of Georgia art students Katie Eidson, Alondra Arevalo and Rina Yoo work on a mural on the side of Blush Hair Studio in downtown Hartwell. The mural is roughly 23 feet wide and stretches across the height of the building on Depot Street.

House will be signing copies of her book at the Hart County Library from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, March 7.

March 3, 1911 — A hog that ate dynamite and was “blown into atoms” when a Georgia mule kicked it made headlines around the state. The incident occurred in Worth County, The Hartwell Sun reported, after a farmer’s hog ate a stick of dynamite that was unintentionally left lying around the farm.

Hart Habitat set for big weekend

The Hart County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build, scheduled for Saturday, March 7, is changing locations. The new build will be at 1024 Mt. Olivet Rd. Due to inclement weather, the group was not able to complete the groundwork needed for the planned construction at Craft Road.
