Rotary awards wife of late community leader

Last week, the Rotary Club of Hartwell awarded Hartwell resident Barbara Edmunds a Paul Harris Fellow +1 pin, one of the highest honors the club can bestow. Edmunds is the wife of Jack Edmunds, a five-decade champion of volunteer and philanthropic work in Hart County who died in August.

Hartwell to host wellness fair March 4

#THROWBACK THURSDAY

1985: Melvin Adamson from Alabama fell 70 feet at the city water tower while it was in the process of being completed on Pecan Drive. After the fall, Adamson was listed in critical condition after suffering a broken back and other injuries.

Legislative wrap up: week 5

Last week was full with debate in the House Chamber and in our committees.  We passed House Bill 910 to amend the FY 2022 budget ending June 30, 2022. The AFY 2022 budget is set at $29.8 billion, allowing the state $2.6 billion in new funds to utilize prior to fiscal year end.

Woman warns of housing contractor scam

A local real estate investor was allegedly scammed by a contractor and wants to help others avoid making the same mistakes. Michelle Wetherbee, who also is a representative of Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, said a contractor accepted a payment from her without doing the contracted work.
